A photograph can help explain your style, but it cannot show exactly how a finish will look beside your home. Use the design meeting to move from inspiration images to identifiable products and samples.
Build a small finish palette
Bring together the proposed pool finish, coping and patio selections with a photograph or sample of the house exterior. View them as one group. Decide which surface should draw attention and which should provide a quiet background.
Compare samples in the intended setting
Look at available samples outdoors near the house, rather than judging them only from a screen. Ask the supplier how sample size, lighting, water and normal product variation affect what you can expect. A small sample is a selection aid, not an exact picture of the finished installation.
Ask product-specific questions
Request the manufacturer's information for the exact product under consideration. Discuss its intended use, care instructions and suitability for the proposed location with the project team. Avoid assuming that every product sold under a broad material name performs the same way.
Document the complete selection
- Manufacturer and product name.
- Color or finish designation.
- Pattern, border and transition decisions shown on the plan.
- Who confirms availability before ordering.
- How substitutions will be reviewed if the chosen item is unavailable.
Keep inspiration and project evidence distinct
Label saved reference images with what you like about them: a color relationship, a restrained border or the arrangement of seating. Ask the designer to translate those preferences to your yard instead of treating the photograph as a build specification.
